Punctuality on the railways fell to 88.4% during Period 9, according to monthly performance data released today by Network Rail.

The data for Britain’s train services covers the period from 13 November 2011 – 10 December 2011.

Period 8 saw 89.3% of trains running on time. The moving annual average is now at 91.1%.

The best performing train operator during Period 9 was London Overground, who ran 97.4% of their services on time.

c2c also performed well, with 97.2% of trains running on time.

The worst performing train operator for this Period was ScotRail, who ran just 84.8% of trains on time. This has been attributed to the severe weather conditions experienced in Scotland at the start of December.

Network Rail introduced a blanket 50mph speed restriction which resulted in most services being delayed.

East Coast ran just 85.5% of their services on time, although this was up from 72.8% for the same period last year. East Coast services were also affected by the extreme weather conditions experienced in Scotland.
