MTR has announced plans to open a new academy in Hong Kong to train its next generation of rail staff.
Currently MTR offers around 6,000 courses a year for its 17,000-strong workforce. The academy would build on this, offering sessions in engineering technology, operations, management and customer service.
Lincoln Leong, chief executive officer of MTR Corporation, said the training of staff was essential to maintaining the operator’s record-breaking levels of punctuality.
“To a large extent, our staff are able to deliver this world class service because of the solid training and regular refreshers that they receive from our experienced in-house experts.”
He added: “With four new rail lines to be opened over the next several years and major asset upgrades taking place in the existing network, we are heralding in a new era of rail travel in Hong Kong, which we are calling Rail Gen 2.0. This will not only enhance connectivity for the community but also provide tremendous career opportunities.”
MTR says the academy would look to partner with local and international educational institutions.
