QR National has been awarded a haulage contract by Polaris Metals, a subsidiary of Mineral Resources.

Under the five-year haulage contract to 2016/ 2017, QR National will deliver 100% of the iron ore produced from the Carina mine in the Yilgarn to the Port of Kwinana near Fremantle.

The contract signing follows the recent announcement by QR National that it is undertaking a joint study with Atlas Iron of a multi-access iron ore railway in Western Australia’s East Pilbara.

Executive Vice President Business Development & Strategy Ken Lewsey said:

“QR National is committed to growing its business with its customers and backing our capability with high performance.”

“The signing of the contract also means we’re right on track with our plan to triple the size of our iron ore haulage business from about 10 million tonnes per annum in FY 2011 to 30 mtpa by 2014.

“QR National has total committed investment in excess of $350 million underway in WA in new trains and new facilities to support the growth of our customers and our business.”
