Sheffield-based heavy lifting specialist, Mechan, has become one of the first companies in the UK to have its achievements honoured by the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS).

The rail depot equipment manufacturer has received a MAS Works Award to recognise the business and operational gains it has made in recent years.

Mechan was put forward for the award by MAS advisor, Peter Rooney, who was asked to nominate exemplar companies from his region that have demonstrated continuous improvement as a result of support from the organisation.

Richard Carr, Mechan’s managing director, said:

“We are really pleased to receive this accolade from our colleagues at MAS. It is gratifying to know how highly they regard us and our achievements.

“Despite recent economic turbulence, we have managed to maintain sales and profit and even open up new markets in Taiwan, New Zealand and Belgium, to continue the growth of our export business.

“MAS’ help to streamline our processes and reduce waste has no doubt played a significant role in this continued success.”

The MAS Works hallmark celebrates the achievements of the UK’s top manufacturers and highlights what can be accomplished by working with the organisation.
