Transport authorities in Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur have gone out to the market to gauge the interest in constructing a new high-speed line between the two countries.
Malaysia’s Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) have launched a “market sensing” exercise for the proposed Kuala Lumpur – Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project.
SPAD and LTA said they hope the Request for Information (RFI) will allow them to “gather industry opinion on selected commercial and technical aspects of the project”.
The Prime Ministers of both countries first announced the cross-border project, which would reduce journey times between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to 90 minutes, in February 2013.
Earlier this year, they held a joint press conference in which they admitted that the original 2020 completion date was not realistic and confirmed the location of the Singapore terminus as Jurong East.
