An extension of Lyon’s T1 tram line, which includes a spectacular new bridge over the Rhône, has been officially opened.

The 2.3-kilometre route connects Montrochet and Debourg, reducing the journey times between the two districts to just seven minutes.

The main focus of work has been on the new 260-metre-long Raymond Barre tram and pedestrian bridge.

The €64 million project also included the construction of four new stops, serving the Musée des Confluences, the Halle Tony Garnier concert hall, education facility École normale supérieure de Lyon and Debourg.

In August 2013, transport authority Sytral completed an extension of the T4 line, which also covered 2.3 kilometres and featured four new stops.
