Lucknow metro design revealed

Listen to this article

Alstom has revealed the design of the Metropolis train it is building for the Indian city of Lucknow.

Alstom said the train’s design reflected the city’s “cultural richness” and that the front end had been modelled on the gateways of several famous monuments: Bara-Imambara, the Asifi Masjid or the Roomi.

Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) awarded the contract to build 20 train sets to Alstom in September 2015.

The trains, which are being manufactured in Alstom’s Sri City and Coimbatore factories, will operate on Lucknow’s new 23-kilometre metro line. LMRC estimates that around 430,000 passengers will use the line when it opens. It expects this figure to rise to more than a million by 2030.
