London Midland is asking its passengers to give generously to the Royal British Legion today, 3rd November, during London Poppy Day.

1,000 people including students, City workers and current and former Service personnel will stand shoulder to shoulder as they collect donations from millions of commuters using the capital’s tube and railway stations.

London Midland will be making announcements throughout the day on all of its services to London asking passengers to give generously.

London Midland’s Nicola Moss said:

“Today is London Poppy Day, the day on which serving members of the armed forces join with ex military colleagues and other supporters to collect for the Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal.

“You will see many hundreds of them today deployed across the capital’s train and tube stations so please look out for them and donate generously.

“We are pleased that we are able to help raise funds for The Royal British Legion who do so much to help our armed forces and their families.”

The money raised will go towards the 2011 Poppy Appeal fundraising target of £40 million, which in turn will fund The Royal British Legion’s £50 million commitment towards the Battle Back Centre, a national centre of excellence for adaptive sports and adventurous training, and the operating costs of four Personnel Recovery Centres.

These will help wounded sick or injured Service personnel recover and either return to duty, or re-skill and make a successful transition to civilian life.

This year alone the Legion will spend more than £72 million providing assistance to over 160,000 serving and ex-Serving Armed Forces personnel and their families.

This equates to £200,000 a day or £1.4 million a week delivering vital welfare work.
