Alstom has received a €200 million order from Graña y Montero Ferrovias to add to its fleet of Metropolis trains in Peru’s capital city, Lima.
The order includes 20 six-car trains for line 1 of the Lima Metro and 19 new cars to lengthen the line’s existing fleet from five to six cars.
Alstom will produce the vehicles at its factory in Santa Perpetua, Spain, and plans to complete delivery of the new trains by 2019. Once in service, the new and longer trains will more than double the line’s capacity.
Lima Metro line 1 was commissioned in 2011. The 34-kilometre line connects the Villa El Salvador district in the south of the city with San Juan de Lurigango in the north.
