Leipzig’s transport authority (LVB) has invited rolling stock manufacturers to submit expressions of interest as the city looks to replace more of the city’s classic Tatra trams.

LVB plans to procure five pre-series trams before launching a full tender for 41 new vehicles.

Companies have until the start of April to register their interest, with LVB hoping to received the new trams between 2016 and 2020.

LVB bought 12 low-floor Flexity Classic trams from Bombardier in 2003. The authority went on to place extension orders for 12 vehicles and nine vehicles in 2005 and 2010.

As well as Flexity trams, LVB operates a fleet of Leoliner trams built by Heiterblick.
