Karlsruhe orders additional tram-trains

Listen to this article

The city of Karlsruhe has exercised an option for 12 additional Flexity tram-trains.

The €60 million order is a call-off from an earlier order for 30 vehicles which was announced in 2009.

Divided into three sections, the latest units, which will be built at sites in Germany and Austria, will be almost identical to the existing tram-trains.

Michael Fohrer, president, locomotives, light rail vehicles and services for Bombardier Transportation, said: “The world-famous Karlsruhe model ideally links the city with the surrounding region and our Flexity tram trains have been customised to perfectly fulfill this requirement.

“With this call-off, we will successfully continue our long-standing partnership with the Albtal Transport Authorities.”
