The Norwegian government has said it is to transfer control of all of the country’s freight terminals to national rail operator Jernbaneverket.

Jernbaneverket will assume control of the sites from Rail Combi, a subsidiary of CargoNet.

Norway’s transport minister, Ketil Solvik Olsen, hopes the transfer will improve competition among rail freight operators.

Jernbaneverket’s budget will be increased by NOK 23.2 million to cover the additional operating costs and the cost of compensating Rail Combi for the loss of equipment at the terminal in Alnabru.
