Israel orders double-deck carriages from Bombardier

Israel Railways (ISR) has ordered 60 new double-deck passenger cars from Bombardier.

The order is an option form a framework agreement which was signed in 2010. The new carriages will be hauled by Bombardier Traxx AC electric locomotives, which ISR ordered last year.

Bombardier said: “As the Israeli public transportation market continues to grow, demand for additional capacity and more frequent service is increasing. In response, the government has planned over 7 billion euro in investments to upgrade its railway networks, opening up opportunities for a variety of mobility solutions.”

The new carriages are due to be delivered between March 2017 and July 2018.
