Ontario has announced a C$1 billion contribution to the extension of Ottawa’s light rail network.
Stage 2 of the network will extend the Stage 1 Confederation Line by 30 kilometres east, west and south. The extension includes spurs to Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport and Trim Road in Orléans.
Work on Stage 2 is expected to begin in 2018 and will be commissioned in 2023.
Ontario has provided $600 million to the Confederation Line’s construction. This new funding package will be the “largest provincial” transport investment in the city’s history.
Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne said: “Our investment in the Ottawa LRT will make a big difference in people’s everyday lives. It’s one of a number of historic investments in infrastructure that our government is making. It will help to create jobs and grow our economy now and for years to come.”
Lots of LRT investment in other cities of Ontario, in Kitchener-Waterloo, Mississauga, and Toronto.
