Incheon Airport maglev opens

Listen to this article

A new maglev system has opened at Incheon International Airport, South Korea.

The 6.1-kilometre, elevated line connects the airport with Yongyu Station and Leisure Complex, with stops at the main terminal building, Terminal 2, International Business District 1, International Business District 2, Waterpark Entrance and Yongyu Station.

Two more phases will be added in the coming years which will eventually form an orbital network.

Developed by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) and Hyundai Rotem, the maglev has a top speed of 110 km/h.

Hyundai Rotem said the opening of the Incheon Airport maglev gave the company a “green light” to delivering similar systems in other countries.
