The first of five new three-car IMPULS 36WEa trains is in passenger service in Poland – a week before it is actually handed over.
The new train is testing on the route between Kędzierzyn-Koźle and Wrocław in Opolskie Province, and passengers have been included in the test.
VIPs on board included the Marshal of the Province and representatives of the Province Board. Marshal Andrzej Buła described the trains as “our regional Pendolino”.
Supplied by Newag SA, and 90 per cent manufactured in Poland, the new IMPULS 36WEa trains are fitted with the latest drive and braking systems.
Passenger comfort is not forgotten as they also have air conditioning, an audio-video passenger information system, Wi-Fi and power sockets at each of the 176 seats.
Designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h, the new train has actually been safety tested up to 226 km/h. It also has provision for both wheelchairs and bicycles.
The official handing-over ceremony for this first train is scheduled for August 26, with two more to be supplied by the end of the year.
A further two trains will be delivered during 2018 in a contract worth over PLN 88 million. Funding comes from Opolskie Province, the state budget, the Railway Fund and the Regional Operational Programme.
