HS1 either met or exceeded its performance targets between 2015 and 2016, according to ORR figures.
In its annual report on the HS1 concession, ORR said the average delay per train had been 5.1 seconds, excluding major trespass incidents, compared to HS1’s target of 5.5 seconds.
Performance improved despite a rise in traffic. Around 1,750 more trains are operating on the route each year than during the last periodic review.
Graham Richards, interim director of railway planning and performance at ORR, said: “It is positive to see the company has performed well in the last financial year, as we would expect for a young railway with relatively new infrastructure assets.
“We will continue to work with HS1 Ltd to ensure that the network continues to meet the needs of its customers, so that a safe, efficient, high-value asset is returned to government at the end of the concession period.”
