HLB orders Coradia EMUs for Südhessen-Untermain network

Listen to this article

Hessische Landesbahn (HLB) has ordered 30 Coradia Continental EMUs for the Südhessen-Untermain network in western Germany.

Due to enter service in December 2018, the €160 million fleet will be the first Coradia Continental vehicles to comply with the European Locomotives & Passenger Rolling Stock Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSI).

Alstom will supply three and four-car variations, which will operate services between Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt, Frankfurt and Aschaffenburg.

The trains, which will be built in Salzgitter, have a maximum commercial speed of 160 km/h and feature large, open interiors, as the traction equipment is installed on the roof.
