The first new driverless metro train for Taipei’s Circular Line has been revealed by Hitachi Rail Italy at its factory in Reggio Calabria.
The first of 17 four-car vehicles has now been completed by Hitachi for Taipei’s Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS).
The manufacturer is working in partnership with signalling supplier Ansaldo STS, which is majority owned by Hitachi, to deliver the automated metro system.
The body shells are made from aluminium and are 2.65 metres wide. The trains can carry up to 98 seated passengers and 555 standing.
Deliveries will be completed by autumn 2018.
