Hitachi Rail Italy, formerly AnsaldoBreda, has been awarded a €190 million contract by Trenitalia for additional Vivalto regional train vehicles.
A continuation of an order placed in March 2010, this latest option is for an additional 136 vehicles, of which 112 will be standard class, intermediate double-deck coaches and 24 will be driving cars.
Maurizio Manfellotto, chief executive of Hitachi Rail Italy said: “By exercising the option for these additional vehicles, Trenitalia has confirmed its confidence in the quality of Vivalto trains, as a proven and up-to date product. Our order backlog is growing and we will continue to offer our leading-edge technology to Trenitalia.”
The vehicles will be manufactured by sites in Pistoia, Reggio Calabria and Naples. In total, Trenitalia has ordered 706 carriages, including 131 driving cars.
