Société du Grand Paris has broken ground on Paris’ new orbital rail network at the future site of the future Fort Issy-Vanves-Clamart station.
More than 5,000 people attended the ground breaking ceremony on June 4, which was supported by its own arts and culture programme.
The Grand Paris Express project includes the construction of four new metro lines (15, 16, 17 and 18). It will also include extensions of the existing lines 11 and 14.
Once complete, the lines will create a new orbital commuter network which will allow passengers to travel between Paris’ suburbs without having to go through the city centre.
Fort Issy-Vanves-Clamart station is on line 15 – a 75-kilometre underground railway which will encircle the centre of Paris. The line is being delivered in three phases: Line 15 South, West and East.
