Final repairs have been completed at Goodna train station, signaling the end to Queensland Rail’s south-east Queensland flood recovery.
Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller said the flood devastation in January saw extensive damage to the City network which required months of repairs with minimal impact for Queensland Rail customers.
“The final piece of the puzzle was the lift repairs at Goodna, which I am pleased to say have been completed and are now back in operation for customers,” Mrs Miller said.
“I understand this has created inconvenience for those who have had to travel to nearby stations to use lifts and I thank them for their patience.
“Goodna station and nearby areas were completely submerged in the floods, causing damage to signaling, station amenities and some parts of the network, but we managed to keep the station operational with the exception of the lifts.
“The complexity and the lead time in sourcing replacement parts made the repairs to the lifts a lengthy process for the maintenance provider.”
Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said in the week following the south-east Queensland floods more than 200 rail staff worked day and night to get services back up and running.
“This equates to 1500 work days or 36,000 man hours to repair the Ipswich line, including repairs to 20 kilometres of fencing,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“More than 40 kilometres of track was affected on the Ipswich line, with Goodna and Gailes stations in particular badly affected by flooding.”
Ms Palaszczuk said Queensland Rail would work with local communities to inform them of the reopening of the lifts over the coming days.
