Bombardier said it is confident of delivering a fleet of new double-deck, intercity EMUs to Deutsche Bahn (DB) on time in December after receiving approval from the German National Railway Authority.
A Bombardier spokesman said the manufacturer received homologation for test operation of its Twindexx Vario intercity train on September 23.
DB Fernverkehr has ordered 44 double-deck trains in total from the original framework agreement which was signed off in 2009.
Bombardier said the certification process has been delayed because of extensive modifications that were needed to be made from the previous generation of double-deck vehicles to meet new national and European safety regulations.
The company is now confident of delivering the first batch of 27 trains in December. The remaining 17 are scheduled for delivery in December 2017.
DB has said it plans to gradually introduce the new units into service during the first half of 2016.
