Burbank has entered into a station-area funding deal with the California High-Speed Rail Authority which will allow it to start planning the city’s new multimodal transport hub.
As well as the proposed high-speed rail line, the new station will incorporate intercity Amtrak services and Metrolink commuter platforms.
Station-area funds include federal and state contributions and are designed to help cities along the route draw up conceptual designs and plan how to integrate the high-speed network with other transport modes.
Other cities to enter into station-area fund agreements include Merced, Fresno, Bakersfield, Gilroy and Palmdale.
Burbank will receive $800,000 to develop the station design and pursue a public consultation.
Southern California regional director Michelle Boehm said: “The San Fernando Valley is long overdue for a major infrastructure investment of this magnitude.
“This agreement creates a unique regional planning opportunity that will help facilitate development of a world class transportation hub, increase the quality and types of transportation choices available to residents and visitors to the San Fernando Valley, and makes significant progress in bringing high-speed rail to the region.”
