Alstom and the French Environment & Energy Management Agency (ADEME) have established a new joint venture, SpeedInnov, to develop the next generation of high-speed TGV trains.
The ‘TGV of the Future’ programme aims to design a train which consumes 35 per cent less energy and is cheaper to maintain than the equivalent current rolling stock.
Alstom’s scope will include drawing up the train specification as well as defining costs and deadlines.
The next-generation TGV will be designed for both the French and international markets in mind.
In a statement Alstom said: “The French rail sector… is preparing to offer its clients an innovative very high-speed train that optimises the economic model of high speed.”
