Financial close has been achieved on the €1.4 billion CBD and South East Light Rail line in Sydney.

The ALTRAC Light Rail consortium, previously called Connecting Sydney, will deliver the new 12-kilometre tram system from Circular Quay through the central business district (CBD) and on to Moore Park and Randwick Racecourse.

Revenue service is set to begin in early 2019.

Alstom will design and build 30 Citadis X05 trams and supply its catenary-free APS ground supply system for part of the route. The LRVs will be manufactured in Europe.

The contract includes the maintenance of the Inner West Light Rail (IWLR) and its existing fleet of 12 trams.
