Bombardier Transportation has brought in Faiveley to supply various systems for a fleet of new trains it is building for the Delhi Metro.
Faiveley Transport will supply the braking, HVAC, pantograph and door systems for 162 Movia metro train sets. Bombardier was awarded the contract last summer, taking the total number of Movia trains ordered by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to 776.
Faiveley Transport’s Indian facility in Hosur will develop the braking systems, HVAC and pantographs, while the door systems will be manufactured in Shanghai.
Faiveley described the programme as one of the largest it has ever supported; its contract alone is worth more than €20 million.
Simon Charlesworth, Faiveley Transport’s sales and marketing vice-president, said: “After being awarded many metro contracts over the years in Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur and more recently in Kochi, we are proud to win these new contracts for the New Delhi metro project and to strengthen our position in the Indian metro segment, a high-growth sector in the country.”
