European Commission approves partial sale of Bombardier Transportation

Listen to this article

The European Commission has approved the sale of a 30 per cent stake in the newly created Bombardier Transportation (Investment) UK Limited (BTUK).

In November last year, Bombardier announced a $1.5 billion deal which would see Canadian institutional investor CDPQ acquire a 30 per cent stake in BTUK – a new UK holding company for, Bombardier Transportation.

CDPQ will acquire a convertible share investment in BTUK.

The European Commission said in a statement: “The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, given in particular that the companies’ activities do not overlap and CDPQ controls no company which would have a significant position as a customer or supplier of BTUK.”

  1. No wonder Bombardier are still manufacturing the 27 Class 387/2 Electrostar for Gatwick Express and 8 Class 387/3 Electrostar for Great Western Railway as well building the 65 Class 345 Aventra for MTR Crossrail and 45 Class 710 Aventra for London Overground.

Bombardier does love building new trains for the UK’s railway industry ranging from Voyagers and Super Voyagers to Turbostars, Electrostars and the new Aventra trains plus they built 191 S-Stocks (S7 & S8) for the London Underground (Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines) Sub Surface lines and the 2009 stock for the Victoria Line. Bombardier are incredible when it comes to manufacturing new trains for the UK and even for London as well.
