Listen to this article

More than €170 million has been committed through the European Regional Development Fund for the first phase of Bucharest’s M5 Line.

The European Commission has approved proposals to help fund the project in two phases, starting with the first section between Râul Doamnei and Eroilor (PS Opera), which includes a branch line to Valea Ialomiţei.

The M5 Line will be 6.7 kilometres long and serve 10 stations, providing connections to lines M1, M2 and M3. The project, which is estimated to cost more than €480 million, includes a new depot at Valea Ialomiţei.

Due to open in December 2017, the new line will serve Bucharest’s Drumul Taberei and Eroilor districts.
