The European Commission is to provide €368 million to fund the construction of Sofia Metro line 3.
The investment, which was approved yesterday (April 26) through the European Regional Development Fund, will fund phase one of the new line between Valdimir Vazov Boulevard, Centre and Zhitnitsa Street.
Phase one includes eight kilometres of new line and eight new stations. The funding will also be used to finance the procurement of 20 new trains.
In March, a Siemens/Newag consortium was awarded a €140 million contract to supply the trains and signalling system for the first phase of line 3.
