The European Commission has approved the acquisition of Arriva by Deutsche Bahn on condition that DB divests all of Arriva’s German activities.

Having investigated the rail and bus markets in Denmark, Germany and the UK, the EU was concerned that competition could be reduced should DB have not agreed to divest its interest in Arriva.

The takeover is expected to become effective on August 27th.
