European Locomotive Leasing (ELL) has signed an additional framework order with Siemens for up to 50 Vectron locomotives.
The new agreement follows on from an earlier framework contract signed in 2014 for 50 units. These have now been built and delivered.
The first new locomotive will be delivered in the second quarter of this year, says Siemens. The new locomotives will be used for both freight and passenger traffic.
They will initially operate cross-border services between Romania and the Netherlands, the Netherlands and Italy, Germany to Romania, and within Germany, Austria and Hungary.
Siemens said in a statement that the new framework agreement would allow ELL to also order locomotives for the corridor to Scandinavia.
