Train operator East Coast is providing some extra help for participants and spectators travelling to Tyneside for the Bupa Great North Run on Sunday 18 September.
East Coast is operating an additional train service from stations in Yorkshire and County Durham to Newcastle to support the event, the world’s biggest half marathon, with 54,000 runners taking part in the race this year.
The extra train service will depart from Leeds at 06.05 and call at Wakefield, Doncaster, York, Northallerton, Darlington and Durham, arriving into Newcastle at 08.19.
Those taking part in the 13.1 mile run from Newcastle to South Shields will join the likes of North East native Joe McElderry, Nell McAndrew and Eastenders’ resident Janine Butcher played by Charlie Brooks, to raise millions of pounds for charity.
East Coast Commercial and Customer Service Director Peter Williams said:
“East Coast is very proud to once again support the Bupa Great North Run, one of the most well known and much loved regional sporting events in the UK. Tickets are now on sale for the additional train service from the website, and we want to wish all of those taking part in the event the very best of luck.”
Bupa Great North Run Communications Director David Hart said:
“We are really pleased that East Coast Trains are going to help make it easier for people to get to Newcastle for the Bupa Great North Run on the Sunday morning. We would recommend that participants and spectators consider using the train where possible as the roads in the region will be exceptionally busy.”
