East Coast confirms Christmas & New Year travel arrangments

Train operator East Coast has confirmed timetable arrangements for passengers travelling over the Christmas and New Year holiday.

East Coast will operate revised timetables on Friday, 23 December 2011 and Saturday, 24 December 2011.

As usual, no services will run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. Revised timetables will then operate from Tuesday, 27 December 2011 until Monday, 2 January 2012 inclusive.

East Coast Managing Director Karen Boswell said:

“Our trains will be very busy during the run-up to Christmas and after the New Year celebrations, as people across the route travel home or on holiday by train.

“We advise our customers to make reservations for travel on services during these peak holiday periods, to ensure a comfortable journey.”

East Coast services on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve will finish earlier than usual. The last East Coast services to and from London King’s Cross are as follows:

Christmas Eve – northbound departures from London King’s Cross:

  • 17.00 for Edinburgh Waverley, calling at York, Darlington, Newcastle, Berwick-upon-Tweed and Edinburgh Waverley;
  • 18.30 for Newcastle, calling at Peterborough, Newark North Gate, Retford, Doncaster, York, Northallerton, Darlington, Durham and Newcastle;
  • 19.30 for Leeds, calling at Stevenage, Peterborough, Grantham, Newark North Gate, Retford, Doncaster, Wakefield Westgate and Leeds.

Christmas Eve – southbound departures to London King’s Cross:

  • 17.00 from Edinburgh Waverley, calling at Alnmouth, Newcastle, Durham, Darlington, York, Doncaster, Retford, Newark North Gate, Grantham, Peterborough, Stevenage and London King’s Cross;
  • 17.05 from Leeds, calling at Wakefield Westgate, Doncaster, Retford, Newark North Gate, Grantham, Peterborough, Stevenage and London King’s Cross;
  • Later East Coast departures are available from Leeds at 18.05 and 19.05, calling at Wakefield Westgate and connecting with southbound services to London at Doncaster.

New Year’s Eve – northbound departures from London King’s Cross:

  • 18.00 for Edinburgh Waverley, calling at York, Darlington, Newcastle, Morpeth, Alnmouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Dunbar and Edinburgh Waverley;
  • 20.00 for Newcastle, calling at Peterborough, Newark North Gate, Doncaster, York, Northallerton, Darlington, Durham and Newcastle;
  • 20.30 for Leeds, calling at Peterborough, Grantham, Newark North Gate, Retford, Doncaster, Wakefield Westgate and Leeds.

New Year’s Eve – southbound departures to London King’s Cross:

  • 17.30 from Edinburgh Waverley, calling at Dunbar, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Newcastle, Darlington, York, Doncaster, Retford, Newark North Gate, Grantham, Peterborough, Stevenage and London King’s Cross;
  • 19.05 from Leeds, calling at Wakefield Westgate, Doncaster, Retford, Newark North Gate, Grantham, Peterborough, Stevenage and London King’s Cross.

Passengers are advised that they can take up to three items of luggage per person onto the train with them – two large items (such as suitcases, weighing no more than 50kg, and no larger than 90cm x 70cm x 30 cm), plus one smaller piece of hand luggage.

Between Saturday, 17 December 2011 and Monday, 9 January 2012, a luggage check-in service will be in operation at London King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverley stations, for services departing between 09.00 and 16.00 inclusive.

On-board East Coast trains, the normal cafe-bar service, offering drinks, snacks and hot and cold food, will be available throughout the festive season.

For customers travelling in First Class accommodation, the usual complimentary catering offer will be available up to and including Saturday, 24 December 2011 and from Wednesday, 4 January 2012.

For the period between Tuesday, 27 December 2011 and Tuesday, 3 January 2012 inclusive, a simplified complimentary catering offer will be available, including bacon sandwiches or porridge for breakfast on weekdays.

The usual weekend complimentary offer will be available on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
