Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the contract for planning and designing an extension of its tram network to Systra and Aecom.

Phases 2 and 3 will extend the network, which opened in 2014, by more than 20 kilometres.

Phase 2, which will add nine new stations, will take in destinations like Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Burj Al-Arab and the Mall of Emirates (MOE). Phase 3, the longer of the two extensions, will serve Jumeirah Beach Road and includes 19 new stops.

Systra and Aecom will plan the extensions, carry out preliminary design work and support the tendering process to appoint a contractor.
