Design-build contract awarded for Doha Metro’s red line

Listen to this article

A consortium comprising Qatari Diar and Vinci (QDVC) has won a 1.5 billion euro contract to design and build the southern section of Doha’s first metro line.

The contract includes the construction of a 13.8 km twin-bored underground line, connecting Doha airport and the city’s Msheireb district, and six underground stations.

The Doha Metro will feature four lines once completed.

Passengers should be able to travel the line by 2018, ahead of the FIFA World Cup four year later.

QDVC is already constructing a new light rail system for Lusail – a new city currently being built to the north of Qatar which will play a major role hosting matches in 2022.
