Listen to this article

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with China promoting closer cooperation between the two countries’ rail sectors.

The agreements, which focus on the construction and maintenance of high-speed trains and wheel-rail interface research, were signed during a visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Beijing.

DB chief executive Dr. Rüdiger Grube said the company saw significant opportunities in China’s rail sector.

He said: “With planned €300 billion investment in transport infrastructure, we want to benefit from the growth and potential in China. Our expertise is in demand. The successful international engagement strengthens us in the home market of Germany.”

DB has had a presence in China since 1966 and currently employs more than 5,000 there.
