Following yesterday’s fatal rail accident at Dalfsen in the Netherlands, when an Arriva train collided with a road crane at a level crossing, ProRail engineers have started to clear the site.
The four coaches of the train are being separated and each placed on a low-loader for transport to the depot where accident investigations will continue. However, first indications are that the level crossing was functioning correctly at the time of the accident.
Once the train itself has been removed, work can commence to repair the track and overhead catenary, both of which were badly damaged in the incident. The repairs will then be thoroughly tested before the line is reopened. A ProRail spokesperson was unwilling to commit as to how long it will take, but said that it would be “a few days”.
Meanwhile, a bus replacement service is in operation between Ommen and Zwolle.
