Transport for London (TfL) has announced the start of a new public consultation which aims to gauge public opinion on proposed station locations and service patterns for Crossrail 2
The chosen route of the railway would see it run between south west and north east London, with links beyond to Surrey and Hertfordshire. Through central London it would duck down into tunnelled section between Wimbledon and Tottenham Hale and New Southgate.
The consultation will also look at proposed locations of ventilation shafts and potential construction site locations.
TfL hopes to begin construction of Crossrail 2 in 2020 and begin passenger services by 2030.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson MP said: “Crossrail 2 will be a vital new transport link that will significantly improve capacity on the rail network into and out of London.
“It will also provide a major boost for jobs, new homes and economic growth here in the Capital and far beyond. Crossrail 2 is a major infrastructure project and so it’s vital that we get it right from the start.”
TfL has described Crossrail 2 as a key part of London’s transport infrastructure vision – essential if the capital is to keep up with the growth of its population, which is expected to rise from 8.6 million to 10 million by 2030.
The public consultation will run until January 8, 2016.
