Downer York Joint Venture – a partnership of Downer EDI Works and York Civil – is to deliver the City Tram Extension Project in Adelaide.

The one-kilometre East End extension includes four new stops and will serve the city’s new Riverbank precinct. It will extend Adelaide’s existing tram network along North Terrace to the city’s East End.

The project is the first phase of EastLINK, which will extend the light rail network into Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.

Announcing the contract award, the Government of South Australia said the total cost of the project had been increased to $80 million, including the procurement of new trams, to allow additional infrastructure works to be carried out.

Preparatory works are now underway and the main construction phase is expected to be completed by the early part of 2018.
