TransEd Partners – a Bombardier, Bechtel, EllisDon and Fengate consortium – has been chosen to design, build and finance the first stage of the Valley Line LRT in Edmonton, Alberta.

Stage 1 of the Valley Line LRT will connect Mill Woods in the south east of Edmonton to Downtown, a route length of 13 kilometres. Stage 1 will include 11 stops, one station and a fleet of new low-floor light rail vehicles.

The project will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership (PPP), which includes a five-year design/build phase and a 30-year operation and maintenance agreement.

In total, the project is estimated to cost $1.8 billion, with the City of Edmonton contributing the majority of the funding.

Announcing the contract award, acting city manager Linda Cochrane said: “We feel confident that TransEd Partners shares Edmonton’s vision for its future, and is the right partner to bring this vision to life.

“The procurement process on this project has been very robust and the final deal is one that offers strong value for taxpayers.”
