Consortia shortlist for Melbourne Metro Tunnel

Listen to this article

Three international consortia have been shortlisted to build Melbourne’s $6 billion Metro Tunnel.

Up to six tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will be used to construct the nine-kilometre metro tunnel and five underground stations: Arden, Parkville, CBD North, CBD South and Domain.

The shortlist includes:

– Continuum Victoria – ACCIONA Infrastructure, Ferrovial Agroman, Honeywell, Downer EDI and Plenary Origination;

– Cross Yarra Partnership – Lendlease Engineering, John Holland, Bouygues Construction and Capella Capital;

– Moving Melbourne Together – Pacific Partnerships, CPB Contractors, Ghella, Salini Impregilo, Serco and Macquarie Capital.

The project is being delivered as a public-private partnership (PPP).

Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said: “The Metro Tunnel will create 4,700 jobs and space in the City Loop to run more services in and out of the city every day.

“Today’s announcement of the shortlist paves the way for contract award next year and construction of the Metro Tunnel and five new stations to start in 2018. We’re getting it done to get Victorians home safer and sooner.”

The shortlisted consortia will submit formal bids early next year. The contract is expected to be awarded at the end of next year and construction should get underway in 2018.
