Chiltern Railways extends late night engineering work

In preparation for the launch of Chiltern’s Mainline services, the company has said that late night engineering works will finish later than planned.

A spokesperson for Chiltern said:

“We planned to end the late night engineering works at the beginning of the block.

“They will now continue through the week following the block before the launch of Mainline and faster services.

“The last day of late night works will now be 1st September with the last very early morning works on the 2nd September.”

Chiltern said this was due to the extensive ‘remodelling of track’ and when ‘large scale track works are conducted, the track takes time to settle and adjust to its new position’.

This means that in the week following the blockade, Chiltern will not be able to increase train speeds to the new line speed of 100mph until this ‘settlement of the track has been completed and therefore the large scale tamping operation will help the track bed down to its final position’.
