Chemnitz transport operator CVAG has named Škoda Transportation as the chosen supplier to build 14 new low-floor trams for the city.

The new bi-directional ForCity trams will replace some of CVAG’s ageing high-floor units when they go into passenger service in 2019.

The deal has been valued at around €35 million. The trams will be built from stainless steel body shells and have a predicted design life of 32 years.

Deliveries will begin in summer 2018.
