Within 4 years a field in Calais will begin to be transformed into Calais Premier, a 160 hectare logistics park which will be the largest logistics park north of Paris, providing a gateway for goods between the UK and the rest of Europe.

Located between the port of Calais and the Channel Tunnel, the site will be connected by rail to the Calais to Dunkirk main line, which will be modernised by 2015, via a £1.8 million new junction. Both projects are being funded by Cap Calaisis.

Confidential talks, described as ‘promising’ by Didier Caudard-Breille, chairman of DCB Group International who are developing the site, have already taken place with UK businesses.

He went on to tell RailStaff’s Jonathan Webb:

“What users will have is a modern multimodal distribution, allowing fluid management of transport flows and speed of rotation. ”

Construction should begin in late 2012/early 2013 and Phase 1 will see two logistics warehouses of 48,000 m2 each, with rail spur, and two additional buildings of 14,000 m2 each.

The site will also be useful for businesses that wish to store goods before exporting them to the UK.
