Bombardier reveals completed Hamburg S-Bahn trains

Listen to this article

Bombardier and Deutsche Bahn (DB) have presented the first completed ET 490 Hamburg S-Bahn train at the manufacturers factory in Hennigsdorf.

Bombardier has completed two of the 60 three-car units ordered by DB and has begun initial testing. DB is investing €450 million both procuring new rolling stock and modernising its existing fleet.

The initial framework agreement included options to order up to 86 additional trains.

From the end of 2018, all 60 trains should be in service. The fleet includes a combination of single and dual-voltage vehicles, allowing them to operate on the 1200 V DC S-Bahn network and 16.7 Hz suburban routes.
