Bombardier has opened a new 20,000 square meter production centre at its Wroclaw factory in Poland which will build the body shells for DB’s ICE4 fleet.

Following approval by German authorities, Siemens and Bombardier are going into full production with the ICE4 fleet.

Bombardier has invested around €58 million in the facility, which can perform 3D laser welding.

As well as body shells, the Wroclaw site, which has been building trains since the 1830s, manufacturers Bombardier’s bogie frames.

Janusz Kucmin, chief country representative for Poland at Bombardier Transportation, said: “Bombardier is the largest international investor in the rail transportation industry in Poland. We have more than 1,500 highly skilled employees in Katowice, Lodz, Warsaw and Wroclaw.”

He added: “As we’re investing in a new state-of-the-art car body production hall, we’re developing our employees’ skills, as well as the capabilities of our Wroclaw site.

“We expect to partner more closely with Poland to further equip the country with our broad and performing portfolio of rail solutions.”
