EDI Rail Bombardier Transportation, the Bombardier/Downer EDI joint venture, is to supply an extra 10 three-car commuter EMUs to Perth.

Western Australia’s Public Transport Authority has extended its contract for Perth B series trains – a deal that was signed in 2011.

The AUD $511 million contract includes the maintenance of both the A and B series fleets until 2026.

In a statement, Rene Lalande, managing director of Bombardier Transportation Australia, said: “We are delighted to continue to support our long-term customer PTA with these additional B Series EMU trains and maintenance services.

“In addition to increasing capacity on Perth’s commuter network, these trains provide a comfortable and sustainable mobility solution for the city’s growing community.

“Bombardier will also apply its asset management expertise to optimise the total performance of PTA’s commuter fleets, boosting reliability and availability for the train operator and its passengers.”

The first of the extra trains is due to be delivered by the end of 2019.
