Listen to this article

Swiss operator BLS has shortlist four manufacturers to supply 60 new trains for its regional RegioExpress and S-bahn commuter routes.

Alstom, Bombardier, Siemens and Stadler have pre-qualified to proceed to the next stage of bidding. BLS plans to award the contract in the second half of 2017.

BLS has described it as the largest rolling stock procurement process in the company’s history.

The new trains will be gradually introduced into service between 2021 and 2026.
