Augsburg trials smartphone tram warning lights

Listen to this article

Stadtwerke Augsburg has installed LED warning lights at two pedestrian crossings in the city designed to alert smartphone users of oncoming trams.

The trial will act as an alternative to the conventional warning signs to alert those using the crossing with their head down, looking at their smartphones, not paying attention to the traffic around them.

The lights have been fitted at crossings on Haunstetter Straße and Von-Parseval-Straße.
